Holiday training plans

Audrey, Kira, etcDespite what I said to at least one parent on Saturday, I’ve decided to take training this Friday 1st June. It will be a low key affair – probably just a game for most of the time. I’ll also take a session in the second week of the holidays – Friday June 15th from 3:30 – 4:45pm

Lastly, could everyone please try to get to training on time in future. Some girls have been starting 10-15 minutes late, leaving far less time to improve their skills.

Cheers
Tim

Girls get the adrenalin pumping

Despite having the ball in our forward line most of the first half, scoring opportunities were few and far between due to a packed Collegiate defence on the small ground. After relentless pressure from our girls, Sarah opened our account with her first ever goal - a nicely struck shot from inside the penalty area. Collegiate scored a classy reply to even the scores and blood pressures soared around the field as the game evened out with both side's defences getting tested.

Mid-way through the second half, we started getting the ball quickly into our forward line and creating more space. Some excellent goal-keeping from Collegiate's goalie kept them alive, but Jessica eventually put one past her. This was followed by two powerful strikes from Charlotte that finished off the game, giving us another good win.

Three quick goals sink Collegiate

The final score 4-1 belies the close match against Collegiate today playing on their Anglesea Street ground for the second time this season. West Hobart scored first, Collegiate equalised but their fate was sealed after we booted three stunning goals in the second half. The first photo shows Charlotte putting one past their goalkeeper (who did a fine job under pressure).

Close game but Fahan prevails

This morning's clash against a skilful Fahan side got underway on the damp, misty Mt Nelson ground behind Hobart College. The game was closely fought but Fahan won 5-2 (I think).

Susanna was unlucky to hit one of the posts instead of the large open space between them. We were lucky to retrieve the ball - twice - when it was kicked out on the steeply-sloping Southern Outlet side of the ground. Small children (and several players) as well as a number of dogs relished their opportunity to jump around in large puddles.

Paul Tabart did an excellent job filling-in for his brother Tim, the regular coach, who was AWOL. Frank McCann sliced and diced the half-time oranges to perfection; perhaps we can look forward to some of his cooking.

Good win against St Mary's - but what happened to off-side?

By Tim Tabart
The girls continued their good form against St Mary's, passing the ball between themselves, keeping positions and showing improved defence. The game was unusual because the St Mary's coach hasn't taught them offside and wasn't willing to play with the offside rule. However he did promise they would in our next encounter. As a result, we scored one or two goals we wouldn't have if we were playing by all the rules. The final score was 5-0.

Scorers: Bella (2), Lily, Zanna and an authoritative penalty by Charlotte.

New website feature - video!

Peter recorded some video segments during the match against St Mary's and thought you'd be interested in this goal kick. Parents' photos and videos are always welcome - talk to him about it. To watch the clip below just click on the arrow.

Five-nil win against St Mary's

Perfect weather for a soccer match on Saturday and a great effort by everyone afield contributed to a worthy win. The St Mary's goalkeeper was kept under relentless pressure especially in the second half. Their manager said that at half-time they'd discussed ways to neutralise Susanna because of her success in blunting their attacks. More details in Tim's notes on the game - see above.

Under 11 Development Program

Megan and ...Orange roster
Don't let Megan or the rest of the team go hungry. You can help them with half-time oranges. Here's the sought-after orange roster to download and print - it's got names and dates: FRUIT

Junior Soccer U11 Girls Development Program
Central Region Soccer has begun this year's program. This provides additional training by experienced coaches, usually girls who play senior soccer, and gives you a chance to be selected in a combined team playing against the other southern soccer regions.

It began on Friday 27th April - initially at a time that clashed with our own soccer training - but has now shifted to Saturday afternoons from 4-5:30pm at Sandown park in Sandy Bay. Coaches are Les Richardson and Brittney Quayle. You can find more info on the Central Region website .

Yee-hah
You also need to register your girls online if they want to participate. There is no cost initially, but it will be $25 if they are selected. In the past they’ve been very good about giving all the girls who turn up a go in the combined teams.

You might want to ring the program coordinators, either Tony Chaffey 0403 351 657 or John Barker 0411 653 227 to confirm the times and venue.

Can you help Tim and the team?

Zanna, Phoebe and Freda
Volunteers wanted at training and Saturday
If anyone is ever available to help out at training, could you give me a call (6228 6535 AH; 0448 310 045). It would give the girls a chance to work on their skills in smaller groups.

Also, with such a big squad, it’s a big job managing the subs each Saturday. If there were a few parents who could share this job from week to week it would be a great help. I’ve worked out a system to give all the girls an equal amount of time on the field which seems to be working reasonably well, but no system is ever perfect.

Orange Roster
Who's able to do an orange roster? So far they’ve been brought by Holly’s parents – Paul and Jean – and me. Peter or Sally will be bringing them this coming Saturday 12th May. Cheers, Tim.

We're back!

Phoebe chucks a wobblyWelcome to the 2007 season
Hello to new and past players who've joined this year's U11 team. Tim Tabart is the new coach, he's Megan's dad and Holly Tabart's uncle.

We'll bring you news and photos on this webpage as well as any venue changes or cancellations, plus the really big news such as The Orange Roster.

Let's begin with Tim's report from yesterday's match against Princes Street held in blustery conditions at Mt Nelson.

Fighting win against the Dolphins 4-3

The girls backed up their 4-2 win against Collegiate in the first round with a fighting, come-from-behind win against the Princes St Dolphins at Mt Nelson. On the windswept Hobart College oval, the Dolphins opened the game with two impressive goals and it looked like we were in for a tough day. Some good passing to our forwards and fantastic dribbling and shooting from Freda opened our account and by half time we were 2-3 down.

Don't look, KiraKira has a bad-hair moment...

Princes St continued to attack in the second half and only the long legs of Susie kept out what looked like one certain goal. As goalie, Susie continually booted the ball to the half way line and converted defence into attack. Tighter defending and good play around the field saw Bella even the score and finally Freda put one more through the posts to complete a hat-trick for the day and put us into the lead, giving us a 4-3 win.

We still have plenty of room to improve so early in the season, but our first two games suggest we’ll be a force to be reckoned with.

Well done everyone!

Kira, Freda and the rest of the gang
